An NT Live screening from Nottingham Playhouse.

It’s 1786 and King George III is the most powerful man in the world. But his behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic as he succumbs to fits of lunacy.

As the Queen and Prime Minister attempt to hide the King’s illness from his subjects, royal doctors hopelessly squabble over the correct cure, subjecting him to torturous medical treatments.

With the King’s mind unravelling at a dramatic pace, ambitious politicians and the scheming Prince of Wales threaten to undermine the power of the Crown, and expose the fine line between a King and a man.

A moving and funny masterpiece by one of Britain’s best-loved playwrights, Alan Bennett, author of The History Boys and The Lady in the Van. This epic play was adapted into an award-winning film, The Madness of King George, following its premiere on stage in 1991.

An NT Live screening from Nottingham Playhouse with Mark Gatiss as George III.
