Bizet’s masterpiece of the gypsy seductress who lives by her own rules has had an impact far beyond the opera house – Carmen is a force of nature who has become a defining female cultural figure.

Don José loses everything to be with the capricious Carmen, with a fierceness that can only lead to catastrophe. Clémentine Margaine stars as opera’s ultimate seductress, opposite superstar Roberto Alagna as the passionate solider held in the throes of Carmen’s cruel magnetism.

Louis Langrée conducts Sir Richard Eyre’s thrilling production, a favourite in the Met’s repertoire and one of the most popular operas of all time.

Captured live at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York.

Sung in French with English subtitles.

This is a screening.
