Writing Memoir and Personal Essays presented by Melissa Fagan
(Concurrent Workshop)

It is often said that everyone has a story to tell, whether it’s a family history, a memoir, or a personal essay on a theme or topic you feel passionate about. But writing that story can be daunting: How do you know where to begin and end? What style and form should your writing take? What material do you include, and what should you leave out—and why? In this hands-on workshop, author Melissa Fagan will guide you through this tricky terrain, offering tips and advice on how to find your story, refine your writer’s voice, and keep your reader engaged.
During the workshop, participants will also have the opportunity to write to prompts, as well as receive and offer feedback. Suggested reading material and further details will be sent in the weeks leading up to the workshop.
Where: USC Building C Block (Upstairs)
