Under the Lino: The History, The Mystery, The Community presented by Caylie Jeffery
In 2017, Brisbane writer and educator Caylie Jeffery became an accidental historian when she published a photograph of old documents she’d discovered in her home, on a social media channel. She unwittingly started an online movement... a detective group of more than 1000 amateur historians, keen to uncover the stories behind the documents, opened up a world of local history that has enthralled people all over the country ever since!
Join Caylie as she shares the journey of the Under the Lino phenomenon and how she managed this collaborative community project, turning it into a crowd-funded, bestselling, self-published book and a popular blog.

What Will Be Worn: A McWhirters Story presented by Melissa Fagan
What Will Be Worn: A McWhirters Story is about prominent Queensland family, the McWhirters (Melissa Fagan’s mother’s family), who owned McWhirters in Fortitude Valley.
In its heyday, McWhirters also had a thriving mail order business; for the women in rural and regional areas of Queensland (and beyond). The arrival of the seasonal McWhirters catalogue was an event. They would scour these book-length catalogues, replete with detailed colour drawings and photographs, then contact the mail- order department to place their order. As such, McWhirters is remembered with fondness all over Queensland.
However, the book is more than just a local history: the story is told via the women in the family, focusing on the patterns that repeat across generations, and how women are connected with each other through the clothes they wear—even today. There is a particular focus on Melissa Fagan’s love of vintage clothing!
