Maryborough Regional Arts Council invite you to enjoy an evening of opera classics at the Brolga performed by Anastasia Bickel and Irena Lysiuk, accompanied by Mark Connors on the piano.
With masterpieces from Mozart, Puccini, Chopin, Rossini, Handel, Offenbach and more, this classical program will be a pure treat for opera lovers and is certain to be a truly enchanting evening not to be missed.
Anastasia Bickel has just been named the 2019 winner of the Deutsche Oper Berlin Award by the Opera Foundation for Young Australians and will be joining the Deutsche Oper Berlin as a Young Artist for their 2020-2021 season.
She has recently returned to Australia after a one-year contract as a Young Artist at Theater Basel, where her roles included Tisbe in La Cenerentola, Annina in La Traviata, Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti and many others. She also performed there in a series of concerts of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, in which she sang Erda/Flosshilde in Das Rheingold, Schwertleite/Grimgerde in Die Walküre, Erda in Siegfried, and First Norn/Flosshilde in Die Götterdämmerung.
In Australia, she has performed as soloist in over twenty oratorios and her operatic roles include Hansel in Hansel and Gretel and Florence Pike in Albert Herring for the Queensland Conservatorium/Brisbane Festival, Philadel's Spirit in King Arthur at the Brisbane Baroque Festival and the Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas for the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic.
Irena Lysiuk is a Brisbane based Soprano and graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music Performance in Classical Voice and Pedagogy who has worked extensively with Opera Queensland.
Mark Connors graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Music in 2016. He is the Musical Director of the Underground Opera Company and continues in 2019 as Musical Director with Brisbane City Opera. He plays regularly for the Qld Choir and is in demand as an accompanist for Community Choirs throughout Brisbane.
