About Wal Neilsen
Queensland based Singer/Songwriter Wal Neilsen delivers his songs with pure lyrical intelligence. He has a rare ability to translate his creative mind into expressive and contemplative songs. There is a versatility that Wal's music oozes, a dynamic that is hard to categorise. He has no problem pushing lyrical boundaries, and isn't frightened of where his songs go. It's that mixture that sets Wal apart from the traditional country artist.
Growing up on his family's cane farm property, resulted with Wal harmonising along with the Tractors engine while working up the fields, writing lyrics to these harmonies when his days work was done. The result was dozens of compelling songs. In 2014, Wal along with his young family decided it was time to pursue his dream in music. That opportunity was the coveted 'Voice of Urban' competition at the Urban Country Music Festival. It was here Wal marked his name within the Country music scene, taking out the com petition. He showcased a story telling prowess with every lyric taking the audience on a musical journey.
With music being his full time career, he started performing at venues around Queensland, gaining a fan base while growing into a confident and energetic performer. His songwriting was once again put in the spot light when his original song 'Cold As Dry Ice' was placed 4th in the Australian Songwriting Contest in 2015. His second single release off his debut album 'Night Rider' successfully charted on the Top 20 Country Tracks charts while gaining radio airplay across the country, Las Vegas and Canada.
On the touring front, Wal has performed in front of hundreds at the Urban Country Music Festival 2016, with previous performances at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, embracing the iconic Fan Zone Stage. He is fast becoming a well-recognised songwriter within the country music industry, sharing the stage with Karrie Hayward, Linc Phelps, Dana Hassall, The Bobkatz, Ruby Gilbert and James Blundell.
With this momentum in full swing, Wal is looking forward- concentrating on starting work on his second album, touring extensively, and seeing where his passion leads him next..
