Aldershot

Posted on 30 Mar 2017 by Our Fraser Coast

Situated between Maryborough and Torbanlea, Aldershot is an old mining town.

Miners moved into the area as early as 1864 when a seam of coal was discovered on the banks of the Burrum River.

The smelting works began operation in 1893. The bricks from a smelter chimney were reused for a fence at a Maryborough flour mill.
