At home residencies for artists

At home residencies for artists

Posted on 30 Mar 2020 by Our Fraser Coast

Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network have been busy developing another opportunity for artists in response to COVID19. In line with their Tough & Tender Beauty project they are offering ‘at home’ residencies for artists who live within our CQRASN catchment (Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, South Burnett, North Burnett, Cherbourg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Livingstone, Banana, Woorabinda, Central Highlands, Mackay, Whitsundays, Isaac).

These residencies will be a paid opportunity for one month: $1500 during April, May, June 2020.

First round submissions closes Monday 6 April, and there will be rolling dates after that.

Interested artists need to complete the following form https://forms.gle/cvhqJBksBvP3UdJ2A

More Information

Our regions had already gone through a lot in recent years with drought, fire and floods, and now the world is being impacted by the COVID20 global pandemic. Through these tough times and working through the arts, individuals and communities find and create moments of beauty. There is beauty and tenderness to be found in the toughest of times, environments and landscapes, in the ways people dig deep, respond, create and reimagine.

Tough and Tender is the signature project for the Central Queensland Regional Arts Services Network for 2020-21 and will profile the diversity of our regions, and the importance of the arts for creative response, resilience, recovery, memorialising and celebration. A range of activities will take place over the next 15 months with a culmination weekend in June 2021. As phase I of that project  expressions of interest are sought  from artists/creative practitioners from diverse artforms to engage in a one-month residency ‘at home’.

Artist ‘at home’ Residency
Each month a selection of artists from diverse regions and artforms will engage in their own practice and way of working reflecting upon the current context and responding to the theme. Artists with experience in a range of forms are encouraged to apply including:
• Visual arts
• Dance
• Drama/theatre
• Literature and spoken word
• Media and sound arts
• Music

We will invite artists to share aspects of their process or work through platforms such as blogs, podcasts/artist talk, social media posts and so forth. They may also include innovative (online) opportunities for other community members to contribute and interact with them throughout.

This project will provide a catalyst for diverse artists from across the wider Central Queensland region to document and respond to the landmark crisis of our times, generate new work, and contribute to a suite of digital, performed and material outcomes.

Work created will also extend artistic and creative boundaries as artists expand their capacity and skill sets. There will be a curated set of showcase outcomes as well as grassroots responses and programs across our regions. Work created may contribute to later phases of project development and sharing at events in 2021.

To apply please respond to our Expression of Interest. The EOI invites you to:
• Describe your arts practice and key aspects from your background
• What are you planning to do during the home residence? How will it respond to the current situation and the theme?
• What digital tools could you be working with and how might you share your work in process with the CQ and wider community during the residency?
• Provide a link to example of your work
• Provide contact details of two possible referees who could comment on your work
• Upload or send through a CV

We encourage participation by First Nations artists and artists of diverse backgrounds and ability.
