Artist Call Out - World Whale Conference Lantern Making sessions

Posted on 25 Aug 2019 by Our Fraser Coast

Council seeks expressions of interest from individual artists to facilitate Lantern Making sessions as part of the 2019 World Whale Conference in Hervey Bay.

The theme for the conference is ‘Journeys that Inspire Change’, with delegates hearing from internationally renowned guest speakers to discuss, share evidence and better understand how we can improve and ensure the protection of cetaceans in Australia and worldwide.

Whether you're a professional artist, emerging artist or self-confessed crafty type, we invite you to submit a quote to run 5 workshop-style sessions in total. Applicants are required to have Public Liability Insurance and a current Blue Card.

Session details:

Hervey Bay Regional Gallery - September 23, 25 and October 3 - 10am to 1pm

Scarness Park - September 30 and October 1 - 10am to 1pm

*Please ensure you are available during the days/times above before applying

How it will be marketed:

Learn how to make beautiful paper lanterns that will light up City Park to mark the beginning of the World Whale Conference in October 2019. Working from a range of provided kit-based designs and materials, the community are invited to create and decorate the lanterns before they are placed in a light installation as part of the official Welcome Reception on October 7, 2019 and other special events throughout the conference. Materials are limited so arrive early each day to avoid disappointment. Under 12s must be accompanied by an adult for workshops and events.

Things to consider:

  • How to incorporate the conference theme “Journeys that Inspire Change”
  • How recycled materials and found objects can be used
  • All materials will be supplied
  • Workshops will be free to the public

Your submission should include:

  • Artist CV
  • Confirmation of availability and brief description of workshop style
  • Indicative costs based on 15hrs contact time

Applications are due by COB Thursday 5 September. Please submit all information via email to Trevor Spohr, [email protected]
