Tiaro Attractions
Do what the locals do…
• Take a canoe trip down the Mary River and you could encounter some of the rarest species in Australia including the Mary River lungfish, which is said to live more than 100 years and makes a small bellow as it surfaces regularly for air. You might also spot the Mary River Turtle, Australia’s second most endangered fresh water turtle or the Mary River Cod, one of the nation’s most
endangered fish.
• Enjoy a hearty meal and good old fashioned hospitality in an historic country pub including Tiaro’s Hideaway Station Hotel (c.1881) or the Royal Hotel in its main street.
• Taste top quality bacon and smallgoods at one of the town’s more unusual attractions, its butcher shop, Tiaro Meats and Bacon, which is famous throughout Australia.
• Taste delicious freshly baked pastries at the Tiaro Tea and Coffee House, located in an old Queenslander cottage dating back to the 1890s.
• Enjoy fresh home baked goodies, pickles, relishes and jams at the Bush and Bay Café, where seafood is a speciality.
