A movement record is a compulsory document that must be created when animals are moved between properties in Queensland. It identifies the owner of the animals being moved, describes the animals being moved and provides details of the movement.

The purpose of a movement record is to allow animals to be traced in the event of a disease. Movement records are a tool used by Biosecurity Queensland to investigate where a disease may have originated from or spread to. These records benefit livestock owners by reducing the timeframe when we assess the risk of a disease.  For more information please go to: https://www.business.qld.gov.au/industries/farms-fishing-forestry/agriculture/livestock/livestock-movement/legal-requirements/movement-records

For events involving livestock, organisers must capture any NILS tags and movement records in the event that Council may have to obtain them.

Under the Biosecurity Act 2014, there are guidelines on running, registering and participating in casual rides and events. This includes:

  • collecting information on all horses attending events
  • maintaining strict biosecurity at events
  • not allowing sick horses to attend events.
