Back

Born in Holland, Wilhelmus (Henry) Breikers came to Queensland in 1957 with his parents. After a career as an art teacher at secondary and tertiary levels until 2014, he has continued to develop his art practice in Hervey Bay.

Wilhelmus' accolades include a first prize in the ‘Rio Tinto Art Awards’, 2018, and selection as a finalist in the 2019 ‘Marie Ellis OAM Prize for Drawing ‘
Although he has exhibited in group shows and also recently at the Gympie Regional Gallery, Wilhelmus will hold his first solo exhibition at the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery this October.

‘Near and Far Away’ is a solo exhibition that references landscapes from the Fraser Coast to Yorkshire, England. The works come from landscape subjects, exploring forms beyond their literal origins.

"I generally start with straight forward representations of things that interest me and then develop different responses that focus on form and shape in a somewhat abstract way"
