Expressions of Interest For Director and Production Proposals - Brolga Theatre 2020 Community Musical

Fraser Coast Regional Council is seeking EOIs for Community Directors and Community Musical Production Proposals to be presented by the Brolga Theatre during the 20th anniversary 2020 Season program.

Since the Brolga Theatre opened in July 2000, a number of high quality productions have been delivered in conjunction with the Fraser Coast Community such as Les Miserables, Oliver, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Wizard of Oz and more.

These productions have afforded members of the community to develop personal and professional skills and have delivered many hours of delight to the broader community.

With the Brolga celebrating its 20th anniversary what better way to celebrate than through another community production.

CRITERIA

Audience appeal:

We are seeking a musical that has wide family appeal.  It should be of a high standard utilising the facilities of the Brolga Theatre and be scoped to enhance the talent that can be found on the Fraser Coast.  The script should realistically be able to utilise local resourcing and people with minimal expectation for talent or resourcing from outside the Fraser Coast.

Performances schedule:

Performances will be limited to two evening performances and one matinee, with the option of an additional matinee at the discretion of the Brolga Theatre Management based on ticket sales.

Budget:

An allocation of $20,000 is provided for within the Brolga Theatre operational budget.  The production budget will be managed by Brolga Theatre Management. Proposals should provide a draft budget detailing estimates of revenue and expenditure.

Production details:

The expression of interest should detail both the selected script, and an overview of the delivery process and casting requirements.  Ideally, the proposal will detail a full production team with a common vision aligned to the same outcome. Directors and proposed production team members should also include an outline of their experience.  (refer attachment A for more information regarding Brolga Theatre Community Musical productions team structure and responsibilities)

Production Timeline

Production and Director selected:     November 2019

Information Session:                            Late January 2020

Auditions:                                               4-8 May 2020

First Rehearsal:                                     9-10 May 2020

Tech Run Week:                                    13-17 July 2020

Dress Rehearsal :                                  20 July with the option for second rehearsal on 22 July

Performances :                                      24-25 July 2020

Selection:

Selection of the successful proposal will be made based upon budget, community appeal of the show, expected community engagement as well as the director’s capability to deliver a successful production.  New directors or other key personnel will not be precluded where they can demonstrate that they have an appropriate mentor to assist with their development.
