Who could have known that when Travers Goff was appointed manager of this bank in 1898 such wondrous works would ensue? His daughter, Helen Lyndon Goff, born in the residence above the bank, will be forever remembered as the creator of Mary Poppins, under the pen name of P.L. Travers.
The Mary Poppins Statue (by artist Rhil Hinwood) was erected as a tribute to the author to mark the 106th anniversary of P.L.Travis. Commissioned by The Proud Mary's with donations from a local benefactor and donations.
