Studio
Refurbished in 2022, the Studio has been transformed into a lively, modern creative hub. It now offers community showcases, a dedicated printmaking studio, hands-on workshops, and a retail shop filled with unique artisan products. The studio provides local artists opportunities to explore new ideas and engage in a wide range of creative activities.
Original features such as the elegant iron columns and raked upper-storey ceiling remain prominent, while the first section of the old staircase has been preserved beneath a newly added metal stair. The upgraded facilities now include a spacious, space ensure the building is open, inclusive, and ready for community use.
A key feature is an 1876 Hopkinson & Cope cast iron Albion Press, No.5594. This hand-operated platen press, ideal for printing letterpress, woodcuts, and linocuts, is housed within the Printstudio.
Once robust warehouses serving Maryborough’s bustling port, the Gatakers buildings are among the oldest in the city. Their sensitive restoration celebrates this rich history while creating inspiring, contemporary spaces for the community to enjoy.
