Film release date: 2025. Film languages: French, Fula, Mannika.
The film tells the story of an immigrant from Guinea who ends up in France after crossing from Africa illegally. In Paris, he works as a food delivery driver using an e-bike while preparing for an interview about his application for asylum. Abou had no previous acting experience when he was selected for the role, but he himself is an immigrant who has been in France for 7 years – coming as a teenager – and who works as a mechanic in Amiens. The film premiered at Cannes 2024, winning the Performance prize and the Jury prize plus a number of other awards, including Best Male Revelation for Abou. The film explores the themes of hardship and exploitation experienced by newly arrived migrants, often at the hands of their own people, not locals. Critics loved this film, with 100 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
