So, what is a Zine? A zine (pronounced "zeen") is essentially a mini magazine created for self-expression by sharing thoughts, interests or ideas. Using a collection of text, images, collage, and other media you can create your own non-commercial, low-cost publication to be copied and distributed throughout the community via the Hervey Bay Library. 😎Have you got something to say? Make a zine about it! 😎Are you passionate about a new topic? Make a zine about it! 😎Have you had a personal experience you'd like to share? Make a zine about it! 😎Want to share your thoughts/opinions/ideas? Make a zine about it!
Historically zines have been a great tool for independent publishing practices to foster community and share social and political ideology. Dating back to the early 20th century, zines have provided a sounding board for many subcultures, marginalised groups and communities to voice opinions and challenge mainstream media narratives. Zines are still very popular today with zine festivals, groups and clubs and a great way of building community amongst like-minded individuals. 🕥When: Every third Thursday, 3:30 - 4:30pm 📍Where: Hervey Bay Regional Gallery, 166 Old Maryborough Rd, Pialba 🎟️Cost: Free 🌞Ages: 13 -19 Materials and light refreshments provided.
