Drawing on this sense of place and nostalgia, Rodgers has created a series of works that explore fishing culture. From catching, selling and eating fish to fishing gear and tackle, the works also extend into the history of Brisbane’s fishmongers, including the State Fish Market at South Brisbane. Fisho celebrates fishing not just as a pastime, but as a shared cultural experience that fosters community. While grounded in Rodgers’ personal story, the exhibition speaks more broadly to the universal emotional and nostalgic connections we hold to familiar places and everyday surroundings.
