Author lineup for Lines in the Sand
  • Three acclaimed Australian authors will visit Maryborough during July and August
  • Free author talks will explore historical fiction, contemporary storytelling and rural crime writing
  • Bookings are essential for all events

From captivating historical fiction and sweeping African stories to gripping rural crime, three acclaimed Australian authors will visit Maryborough Library during July and August as part of the ongoing Lines in the Sand series of free author talks.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the free events highlighted Fraser Coast Libraries' commitment to bringing high-quality literary experiences to the region.

“These author talks provide a wonderful opportunity for local readers to hear directly from some of Australia's most talented writers and learn about the inspiration behind their books," he said.

“Whether you enjoy richly researched historical fiction, sweeping international stories or edge-of-your-seat crime novels, there is something for everyone in this exciting line-up.”

Cr Seymour said author events were an important part of the role libraries played in connecting communities through storytelling, ideas and lifelong learning.

"Our libraries go beyond books - they are vibrant community spaces where people can come together to learn, share experiences and engage with authors and other creatives," he said.

The first author talk is on Monday 20 July at 11am with historian and author Dr Karen Thurecht, who will discuss her historical series The Dr Hamish Hart Mysteries and reveal how extensive research helps bring her stories to life.

On Monday 3 August at 10am, readers can hear from Zimbabwean-born author T.M. Clark as she shares insights into her latest novel, Daughter of Africa — a sweeping story of hope, resilience and belonging inspired by the landscapes and people of Africa.

The third author’s talk is on Saturday 15 August at 10am with award-winning crime writer Margaret Hickey, whose bestselling rural noir novels have captivated readers across Australia.

Margaret will discuss her tense new thriller, Cold River, as well as her writing process, the inspiration behind her stories and the unique appeal of crime fiction set in regional communities.

All events will be held at Maryborough Library. Entry is free, however bookings are essential.
