Reading wombats, vibrant landscapes and a love of books featured among the winning designs in last year’s Fraser Coast Libraries Design-a-Bookmark competition, with residents now invited to get creative again for 2026.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the much-loved annual competition is open from today and encourages people of all ages to express their creativity through art by designing a bookmark.

“Last year we received nearly 300 entries across five age categories, which was a fantastic result,” he said.

“The winning bookmarks celebrated Fraser Coast wildlife, landscapes and colour, and we’re excited to see what our community comes up with this year.

Cr Seymour said the competition offers budding artists a unique opportunity to have their artwork professionally printed and shared with the wider community.

“We’re thrilled to see this competition continue to grow, showcasing the incredible creativity within our community.”

Libraries spokesperson Cr Michelle Govers said the competition is open to current library members, with bookmark entry forms available from today.

“Entry forms can be picked up from any Fraser Coast library branch or downloaded online,” she said.

“There’s no set theme, so designers can let their imagination run free from animals and sunsets to favourite places or stories.

“There are five age categories, with entries judged on originality, creativity and how well the design can be reproduced as a bookmark.

“Each category winner will receive a $50 Fraser Coast Buy Local Gift Card, presented at a special ceremony in June.

Competition categories include:

  • 6 years and under
  • 7 to 11 years
  • 12 to 17 years
  • 18 to 59 years
  • 60+ years

Cr Seymour said once winners are announced, the community will also be invited to vote in the People’s Choice Award, which attracted 761 votes last year.

“To enter you must be a Fraser Coast Libraries member.  Membership is free and easy to sign up for online:  https://www.ourfrasercoast.com.au/Libraries/About-Us/Membership-information

Entries close Saturday 18 April with winners announced in early May.
