Hervey Bay Library modernises printing services

The Hervey Bay Library has transitioned to a self-service model for printing and scanning as part of preparations for its move to the new Community Hub later this year.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the introduction of automated printing would make the service faster and easier for library members, while allowing staff to spend more time supporting customers.
“Printing is popular with library members of all ages, so it’s great we can offer a service that’s easier and quicker for everyone,” he said.
“Members can now print directly from library computers, head to the printer and pay using their library card, without needing to queue at the service desk.
“You can also print directly from a USB by plugging it into the automated machine, giving members another quick and convenient printing option.”
Previously, members were required to send their print job and then queue at the service desk while a staff member logged into a separate computer to release documents - a process that was time-consuming for both members and staff.
Cr Seymour said library staff remain available to assist anyone who needs help using the new system.
“Our libraries are much more than places to borrow books, they’re important community spaces where people learn, connect, study and access essential services,” he said.
“Council places a high value on our libraries, and upgrades like this are about making sure they continue to meet the needs of a growing and changing community, now and into the future.”
The new system is already operational, with eight computers connected to the network for automated printing. A further seven computers are scheduled to come online next week.
Cr Seymour said modernising the service removed unnecessary steps, improving efficiency and delivering a better overall customer experience.
