Gatakers Artspace in Maryborough will open three new exhibitions this week, bringing together recognised and homegrown artists to explore Fraser Coast memories, coastal life and nature.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Arts spokesperson Cr Michelle Govers said these exhibitions highlight the strength and diversity of our local arts scene, while also connecting our community with artists from beyond the region.

“Brisbane artist Svenja presents bold three-dimensional textile sculptures inspired by nature, while Maryborough-based Katarzyne Hartmann explores light and atmosphere through expressive acrylic and oil paintings,” Cr Govers said.

“In addition, Fraser Coast artist Glen David Wilson offers a rare glimpse into regional history through intimate family photographs taken by R.G. Parry.

“Art and culture play a vital role in telling our stories, reflecting who we are and bringing people together, and Gatakers continues to be an important place for those conversations to happen.

“After its biggest year on record in 2025, welcoming 15,000 visitors, Gatakers is excited to open 2026 with a strong lineup of artists.

“Through these exhibitions, visitors can experience our region’s history, landscapes and creative spirit in very different but equally powerful ways.”

The three exhibitions opening at Gatakers Artspace this week are:

  • DistoMorph: Svenja - Sculptural textile works transforming natural forms through screen printing, devoré techniques and three-dimensional construction.
  • In My Imperfect World: Katarzyne Hartmann - Acrylic and oil paintings inspired by coastal life, natural landscapes and fleeting moments in nature.
  • A Life Through His Lens: Glen David Wilson - A photographic window into the mid-century life and times of R.G. Parry - a photographer between 1940 to 1970 who captured life on the Fraser Coast.

Cr Govers said these exhibitions celebrate creativity, connection and the importance of preserving and sharing our cultural stories.

All three exhibitions open this Saturday (28 February) at 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Gatakers Artspace,  311 Kent Street, Marvborough and will remain open until Saturday April 11.
