Artist In Residence: Nicola Hardy

Nicola Hardy will undertake an Artist in Residence at Gatakers Artspace, a program designed to provide artists with time and space to develop new work and explore ideas. Follow Nicola’s creation process as she develops a series of mixed-media collages culminating in a digitally printed limited-edition, hand-bound artist book.

Nicola Hardy is an internationally experienced interdisciplinary artist, graphic designer, illustrator, and educator whose practice spans collage, painting, typography, publication, and object-based work. Grounded in a background of graphic design, illustration, and small-press publishing, Nicola harnesses a process-driven methodology to explore typography and found imagery as primary visual materials rather than solely communicative tools.

Working primarily with monochromatic imagery of trees and landscapes, she will disrupt and transform the visual plane using ink, paint, mark-making, Letraset, and cut-up text. Allowing visual relationships to emerge organically throughout creation, Nicola will also employ various self-imposed creative limitations to curtail excessive choice and foster intuitive decision-making. Nicola has widely exhibited in both group and solo settings throughout Australia and internationally.

Nicola will be on-site daily 10am to 2pm upstairs in the Gatakers Studio from 22 September to 3 October, 2026.
