Handset Letterpress Printmaking Workshop
Next date: Saturday, 04 July 2026 | 10:00 AM
to 04:00 PM
This one-day workshop introduces participants to the traditional craft of handset typography and letterpress printing through a practical, hands-on experience with Moveable Type Studio's Pop Up Press and Gatakers Print Studio.
Designed for printmakers and creatives with an interest in expanding their printmaking practice, the workshop explores the tools, materials, and processes used in traditional letterpress production. Participants will work with historic wood type, traditional lock-up equipment, and contemporary laser-engraved relief plates, gaining an understanding of how these processes continue to inform contemporary print and design practice.
Working through the workflow from composition to printing, participants will learn the fundamentals of Letterpress typesetting, lock-up, registration, inking, and impression while developing an appreciation for the material nature of traditional typography and relief printing.
