Trashion to Fashion Wearable Art workshop with Ruthie Purnell

In the lead-up to Waste to Art, join 2025 Australian Wearable Art contestant Ruthie Purnell for an inspiring workshop exploring how unwanted and discarded materials can be transformed into imaginative wearable fashion.

Whether you already have an idea in mind or are starting with a blank page, Ruthie will help participants develop and refine concepts that could potentially be entered into this year's Waste To Art Wearable Competition.Think outside the box as you experiment with creative possibilities, discover new ways to repurpose materials, and learn how strong wearable art concepts are developed from initial ideas through to design.

Participants are welcome to:

1. Bring along existing concepts, sketches, or materials for feedback and assistance.
2. Start from scratch and develop a new wearable art idea.
3. Explore a variety of materials and found objects available on-site.
4. Take part in a materials swap, exchanging unwanted items and discovering inspiration in unexpected places.

Perfect for artists, makers, designers, and creative thinkers interested in sustainability, fashion and innovative design. No previous wearable art experience required.

When: 16 August | 10am to 1pm
Where: Upstairs Studio, 311 Kent Street, Maryborough
Suitable for: Children 8+ and Adults (Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult)

Workshop Cancellation Policy

Gatakers Artspace cannot accept responsibility for any changes in personal circumstances. Missed workshops or change of mind are at your own expense.  If a participant chooses to cancel their confirmed registration, or cannot or does not attend the workshop, the following will apply:

• The registered participant may invite another person to substitute their place in the workshop (in which they are registered) at any time at no charge;
• If notice is received 2 or less days from the scheduled starting date, a refund will not be offered;
• If a workshop is cancelled by Gatakers Artspace a full refund or a reschedule will be provided. Gatakers Artspace will endeavour to advise participants of cancellation at least 48 hours prior to workshop.
