This showcase celebrates the fascinating heritage of Queensland’s Maryborough sugar cane industry through the intricate lens of textiles.
Pat Wheeler harnesses dyeing, slow stitching and bobbin lace making to reflect the delicacy and enduring strength of the Sugar Cane industry surrounding Maryborough. Living on reclaimed sugar farming land, Wheeler incorporates timber planted and gathered by her and cane soil - stained fabric as living remnants of farming processes. The materials used throughout the showcase are reclaimed and repurposed representing the hardships and resilience of connected personnel.
Experience a suite of works which transports you to windswept fields and flooded plains while paying homage to a marriage of rich agricultural and industrial history of Maryborough.
