In celebration of their fifth anniversary, Urban Sketchers Maryborough will present a showcase of members' work at Gatakers Artspace.

On the first Sunday of every month, sketchbooks open and a small community of artists settle in to capture the town exactly as it is in that moment.

Urban Sketchers is a worldwide art movement built around sketching the urban landscape on location, catching the atmosphere and spirit of a place as it happens rather than working from a photo taken home later.

The Maryborough chapter grew out of a memorable weekend about five years ago, when Brisbane Urban Sketchers visited during Heritage Week and around fifty local and visiting sketchers filled the CBD with artwork, drawn in by the town’s heritage architecture on the banks of the Mary River. The locals who joined in liked what they’d started and decided to keep it going, forming their own registered chapter of the international organisation.

Urban Sketchers Maryborough meets the first Sunday of every month, 9.30am to 11.30am, at Maryborough City Hall.
