Retail Showcase - Shohei & Yumiko Kishishita

12960.jpg

Showcasing our retail artisans and highlighting their craft, this display presents a charming blend of traditional techniques and rich cultural artistry, beautifully practiced by a mother‑and‑son duo.

Shohei Kishishita has practiced leatherworking since 2018, self-taught and born out of necessity after a treasured leather wallet he had purchased became too worn for use. Using hand tools to cut or stitch and leather tooling stamps to carve decorative detailing, Shohei’s appreciation for the tactility of shilling materials by hand inspires the intricacies of his designs.

Yumiko Kishishita has engaged in kimono since her early youth, reinforced by a positive and encouraging parental influence. Learning Japanese dance meant wearing kimono was an everyday routine, and after beginning work, Yumiko obtained a Kimono dress-making license to continue her practice. Now able to remake and alter kimonos, Yumiko obtained further education in the discipline and continues her passion for the cultural practice here in Australia.
